This New Horror Film Is Now Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Romantic Bond.

Here's a test for partners in committed relationships who are fans of the horror genre: Sit down with your loved one and stream Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its launch on a streaming platform via Hulu. Outwardly, it might appear like typical biological terror, but inside Together exists a intense contemplation about our choices in loving each other.

A Debut Feature Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together marks the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It stars Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, partners that have remained a couple for ten years. United in marriage in reality in 2017, the two stars contribute a special spark to their portrayals, skillfully embodying both the good and bad of a long-term relationship.

The story begins when Tim and Millie move from the big city to the country for her career. A commonly used plot device, of course, but that’s mostly where the cliches end. Together becomes as much a examination of mental states of the couple's dynamic as it is a film about physical terror.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While hiking near their rural residence, a tempest descends, and the two fall into an subterranean cavern. After a night spent there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity starts to affect the couple. This force creates a supernatural closeness between them that goes well past emotional intimacy.

The whole movie is a methodically building fright fest, interspersing moments of hallucinatory nightmares, gross (but not excessively graphic) biological grotesqueries, and authentically humorous exchanges (sometimes in the middle of something horrific). Shanks orchestrates these parts neatly and delivers them in a consistently growing aura of dread.

Layered Performances

A great deal of Together is exclusively the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray countless layers to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie’s confidence and emotional bond is waning due to a lack of intimacy. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his unwillingness to pursue anything but his floundering music career slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand feels trapped and cut off by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve left the city and distant from his social circle. He fears the notion of utterly sacrificing his personal autonomy in his partner. This fear is intensified by the circumstance he can’t drive and is dependent on Millie for mobility.

The director's cleverest decision in Together never makes one partner or the other the definite antagonist.

Both characters grapple with the kind of problems that are inherent in most partnerships after ten years. At their core, they continue to care for each other. They share moments of joy, offer support, and are vulnerable at times. But below this facade, there’s an unavoidable feeling of questioning about their relationship.

Thematic Depth

While the otherworldly presence in Together represent these concerns of unhealthy attachment and fully committing to another person, the metaphor avoids being hamfisted or heavy-handed. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments present a brilliant analogue to the relationship narrative. Both the supernatural and the personal serve the other symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s ending, which remains unspoiled, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about codependent relationships. Reports indicate that those not in relationships have seen the movie as a strong argument for avoiding commitment. On the other hand, some couples having disagreements found that the film actually helped them make up.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own interpretation could potentially serve as a revealing measure of how you view relationships. Will the conclusion sow anxiety and horror, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you recognize your own traits in one of the characters and yell at the screen, or simply glance toward your partner and say, “I’d do that for you”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an experiment you can experience at this very moment.

Together is streaming on the streaming service Hulu at present.
